Engaged audience listening to Todd Stumbo’s message on transformational leadership and rec

On both sides of care.

In 2004 I was the one who needed help. Today I lead the people who give it.

In July of 2004 I walked into treatment with nothing left to lose. I could not tell you today what the treatment plan said, which groups I sat in or what the schedule was. What I can tell you is that somebody treated me like I was worth saving before I believed it myself.

I have spent every year since trying to do that for someone else. First one person at a time, and now by building places where it is the standard.

How I lead

Serve first. Listen first. Know how each person is wired. I learned those from James Hunter's The Servant, Chris Voss's Never Split the Difference and John Maxwell's DISC work.

Will Guidara's Unreasonable Hospitality gave me words for the rest: hospitality is a standard of care. How a team is treated is how its guests will be treated.

“MY PASSION REMAINS TO HELP THOSE AROUND ME GROW BEYOND WHAT THEY THINK IS POSSIBLE.”

I call all of it Inside First. Do the work on the inside, and the rest follows.
